4 Ways To Wake Up Happy

Oh I know. Mornings can be tough, especially when you're waking up to annoying alarms or kitty paws on your face. It's like everyday I have to decide between the warm, comfiness of my duvet and going out and having a social life. And if you're anything like me, getting ready can take about 2 hours- IF you like to leave everything to the last minute. So is it possible to wake up early and still be positive, when you feel like snuggling back down under and pulling a pillow over your head?

Here are 4 ways to wake up happier!

1. CREATE ROUTINE
It's so much easier to wake up when you're body is used to a certain time. I've set my alarm to 7 every morning, regardless if I have a day off or not. Crazy? Maybe. 7am may not work for everybody, so try it out, and find a time that your body won't kill you for.

2. HYDRATE
As soon that alarm goes off, grab a glass of lukewarm water. I like to have mine with lemon, as for some reason, water in the morning always tastes disgusting. Don't ask me why, just tell me in the comments if you think this too! David's Tea always has a nice selection of mugs to choose from. This Leaf Frog Nordic Mug & this Raspberry Pink Travel Mug are both beautiful and practical.

3. SET THE MOOD WITH SONGS
I find that my favourite songs make me feel good about myself, giving me motivation that lasts the rest of my day. I've been loving Please Don't Go by Joel Adams, Kill Em With Kindness by Selena Gomez (personal fave), & Gone by JR JR. Trust me- doing that little dance with your headphones in makes all the difference :)

4. UNPLUG
Try not even looking at your phone or laptop the next morning. By not filling your mind with supposably "flawless" faces or "perfect" selfies, you can focus on YOU. You might want to check out my previous post Why We Shouldn't Compare Ourselves To Social Media's Idea Of Perfection to see that taking breaks from the online life isn't such a bad thing!

Are you a morning person? Which ways do you like to stay positive in the mornings?

  1. I always used to be a morning person but recently (especially this last week) I can't get myself out of bed until 10. I also feel so slumpish in the day time as I wake up at 10 and just don't do anything. I like your suggestions and I'm definitely going to try them out, hopefully I wont feel as slugish tomorrow :) xo

  3. I am a morning person... or I was? Now I find it a lot harder to truly kickstart the day and I REALLY want to get back into a routine. I think waking up early and feeling prepared really sets the tone for the day. I am definitely going to take your tips for a test drive this week!

  4. Yes, water in the morning tastes so disgusting to me too and that's definitely one of the main reasons why I also drink it with lemon and honey! Nowdays it's one of my favourite morning routines and it feels so weird when I have to skip it (like now because I'm on holiday). Have a great day! xx

  10. I'm going back to be an early bird especially my classes will start next week. I couldn't agree more with those steps above. This morning, I was determined to get up from bed so I set two alarm clocks last night. One was placed on my side table and the second one was placed on a corner far away from my bed so I have one reason to get up. It was indeed a success. After doing my morning routine like go the comfort room (hahaha, winks), drinking water or lemon juice, washed my face, comb my hair and sent my boyfriend a good morning text. After doing all those things, I read a book entitled "Losing It" by Cora Carmack. Have you read it? I felt like I am being myself again. With all those stuff, I missed being an early bird and do productive things or things that will surely make me happy early in the morning and knowing I still have plenty of time ahead.

After reading, I checked Bloglovin' like it's my daily newspaper, checked my blog and played Ed Sheeran's songs and sang along with it while cooking my breakfast. People who says that being an early morning person sucks have gotta get a life unless he/she works in a graveyard shift though. Hihi :)

It's so nice to stumble upon your blog. :)

    1. Your idea of setting that other alarm on the other side of the room actually sounds like such a good idea, haha! I feel like I would hear that second alarm and freak out because I forgot where it was coming from! I've never read that book, no. Hopefully my tips help you! And thank you! xx

    1. Thing is, because it becomes routine, my body is used to waking up now without an alarm. So on the weekends I just turn it off! :)

  12. I love listening to motivational music in the morning. It gets me pumped up and filled with the spirit to take on the day's challenges. Formation by Beyonce is my alarm song! And I use to be really good at not gravitating towards my phone in the morning, but recently it's been the first thing I look at when I wake up. I'm trying to be more of a morning person because I know how good I feel when I do wake up early.

  13. Hi Kyia,

I usually love listening to my Sinatra songs and all the pop standards of the time in the morning. I find that as I progress throughout the day, I get more into pop and rock. But the American pop standards really sets me up to be happier in the morning.

Great post and looking forward to more.
